In what could rank as one of the worst use of resources of all time, an expensive Patriot missile has been used to shoot down a humble drone.
在所有“滥用资源”的例子中，美国某盟军的所作所为简直是对这一词组的完美诠释：该国军队用一枚昂贵的爱国者防空导弹轰下了一架普通的航拍飞行器！
humble：一般指谦虚的、简陋的，这里译为成“普通的”。
The quadcopter drone was worth US$200 ($280) and the missile US$3 million ($4.2m). Patriot defence missiles are radar-targeted weapons usually intended to down enemy aircraft and ballistic missiles.
被射下的四轴航拍器的市场价是280纽币，而射下它的爱国者防空导弹价值420万纽币。大家都知道，爱国者防空导弹属于全天候多用途中程防空导弹，是主要被用来攻击敌军飞机及拦截弹道导弹之用的。

According to news reports, US general David Perkins revealed the Goliath-smashing-David-event a military symposium.
根据外媒报道，美军上将珀金斯（David Perkins）在阿拉巴马参加“美军全球力量协会”（AUSAGF）主办的一次研讨会时发表讲话时表示，这一架航空器是被美国同盟国的军队打下来的。

"Now, that worked, they got it, OK, and we love Patriot missiles.
Perkins pointed out the obvious - that deploying large surface-to-air missiles as a defence was not good bang for your buck.
珀金斯将军指出，现在大家看到了“爱国者”导弹的威力，不过，他也在稍后质疑这样做在经济上是否合算。

"In fact, if I'm the enemy, I'm thinking, 'Hey, I'm just gonna get on eBay and buy as many of these $300 quadcopters as I can and expend all the Patriot missiles out there'."

No further details were given, but Perkins said it involved "a very close ally".
尽管并没有披露这次爱国者导弹攻击的具体细节，珀金斯表示，发动攻击的是美国“非常亲密的盟友。”
