A UK man has been convicted of attempted murder for telling his wife he had a present and then stabbing her in the neck.

闭上眼睛，我有一个惊喜要给你。没想到，他却一刀刺向了自己的妻子。该名男子目前被判谋杀未遂。

convicted：证明有罪的；已被判刑的

attempted：企图的；未遂的

murder：谋杀，谋杀罪

stabbing：（用刀等锐器）刺；（用手指或尖物）戳

Shaun May told his wife Laura May to close her eyes before covering her face with a tea towel and attacking her in October last year, The Sun reports.

据了解，去年10月的一天，Shaun May告诉妻子Laura May闭上眼睛，然后用一条茶巾蒙住了Laura的脸并对她发起攻击。

The knife narrowly missed vital arteries and Laura eventually recovered from her injuries.

刀伤险些刺穿Laura的主动脉，幸运的是，她目前已经从伤势中恢复了过来。

vital：至关重要的；生死攸关的；有活力的

arteries：动脉

She told the jury in court she had no idea what was going to happen, and had initially thought her husband had got her a new pet before the attack."I said to him 'This had better be a puppy' because we had talked about having one but he said 'It's not a puppy'," The Sun reports she told the court.

Laura在法庭上告诉陪审团，闭上眼睛的时候她并不知道接下来会发生什么。起初她以为是丈夫为自己购买了一只新的宠物。我当时和他说，“最好是只小狗。因为我们此前曾商量过一起养一只。”“不过他却跟我说，不是小狗。”

Shaun drove Laura to the hospital after the attack, where she told staff she had injured herself, before eventually admitting it was her husband.

Shaun在袭击Laura后，又驾车将她送去了医院。Laura起初表示伤口是自己弄的，但最后承认是丈夫Shaun所为。

injured：受伤的；受损害的

eventually：最后，终于

She broke down in tears when a nurse told her police had been called and admitted the truth. Shaun was then spoken to by a psychiatric nurse, who said he was "insightful and understanding".

当一名护士表示已经报警后，Laura哭了。一名精神科护士曾与Shaun进行过交谈，并认为他“富有洞察力和理解力”。

psychiatric：精神病学的；精神病治疗的

He claims he planned to kill Laura and then himself after losing his job and becoming concerned about the couple's financial situation.

Shaun称，自己因为丢掉工作而计划杀死自己的妻子然后自杀。因为他对二人以后的经济状况非常担忧。

"I picked up the knife and rather than injure myself I took it out on Laura," he told the court.

Shaun在法庭上表示，“我拿起了刀，但不是为了伤害我自己；而是想杀掉我的妻子”。
