袂花江上排筏游【中英双语】

2023年五一期间，孙女回湛江看望太姥姥（我和老伴及儿子、儿媳，还有亲家老两口全程陪同），受到亲友们的高规格热情接待：看美景、品美食、尝海鲜、放烟花……日程极其丰富多彩。5月2日，应杨杨阿姨邀请，我们一行七人到其老家吴川兰石镇参观，并乘坐她爸爸的排筏游览袂花江，将湛江之行推向高潮。

小小排筏江中游，

如画美景两岸走。

绿油油的庄稼望不到边，

热带果香醉心头。

惊看群鱼筏下过，

喜听水牛放歌喉。

放歌喉，

水牛也想江中游!

小小排筏江中游，

远近美景醉心头。

登岸摘花果，

水中采莲藕。

最爱旷野放烟花，

狂欢趣难收。

趣难收，

何时再来江上游？！

小小排筏江中游，

心潮澎湃情悠悠。

时钟呀，请停摆，

注释：

袂（Mei，音同妹）花江，又称沙琅江，是流经茂名、湛江两市的跨界河。按传统说法，袂花圩以上的中、上游为沙琅江；袂花圩以下的下游为袂花江。全长112公里，流域面积2516平方公里。该江发源于电白区鹅凰嶂南坡，向南流经电白区沙琅、霞洞、林头、坡心、七迳、小良诸镇和茂南区羊角、袂花、鳌头三镇，到吴川市兰石镇瓦窑口与梅江汇合，入南海。

袂花江水清岸绿，水草丰美，是茂名市流香溢蜜的母亲河。根据规划，将在河两岸打造农耕、水乡及文化教育景点。

Rafting on the Meihua River

During the May Day holiday in 2023, our granddaughter, together with her parents and her grandparents on her mother’s side, went to Zhanjiang to visit her great-grandmother. My wife and I got there before them and took them to see as much as possible.  Besides visiting scenic resorts and enjoying local delicacies, we visited Lanshi, Aunt Yangyang’s hometown, northeast of Zhanjiang. Yangyang’s father not only kindly showed us around his own farm, but also personally steered a small boat for us to cruise the Meihua River, bringing the Zhanjiang tour to a climax.

The little raft drifting down the stream,

Both shores unfold a scenic dream.

Endless green fields stretch far and wide,

Tropical fruits sweeten the tide.

Around the raft, fish leap and play,

While buffaloes happily roar by the bay.

Roaring by the bay,

How they wish to join us night and day!

The little raft drifting down the stream,

Beauty surrounds in sunlit gleam.

Plucking fruits on the shore,

Gathering lotus, craving more…

With fireworks lighting up the sky,

Cheers run wild and high.

Cheers running high,

How we wish never to say goodbye!

Our hearts’ re filled with flowing dreams.

Oh the clock, please pause your race.

Oh the sun, please delay your chase.

Let us stay long with the friends

And tour around at a slow pace.

Notes:

The Meihua River, also known as the Shalang River, is a transboundary river flowing through the cities of Maoming and Zhanjiang of Guangdong Province. According to traditional classification, the middle and upper reaches above Meihuayu are called the Shalang River, while the lower reaches below Meihuayu are referred to as the Meihua River. 

With a total length of 112 km and a drainage area of 2,516 km², the river originates from the southern slope of Mt Ehuangzhang in Dianbai District. It flows southward through the towns of Shalang, Xiadong, Lintou, Poxin, Qijing, and Xiaoliang in Dianbai District, and Yangjiao, Meihua, Aotou in Maonan District. It then converges with the Mei River at Wayaokou in Lanshi Town, Wuchuan City, before emptying into the South China Sea.  

The Meihua River is known for clear waters, lush banks and abundant aquatic vegetation, serving as Maoming's nurturing “Mother River”. According to development plans, different zones featuring agriculture, aquaculture, recreation etc will be established along the river.
